Follow these Steps to Create Multimedia
In Task 3, I was asked to create a multimedia for my website (e-portfolio). Since my site is designed to help teachers learn new techniques to use in the classroom, I selected items I felt would best showcase how to use multimedia in lessons, presentations, or activities. My target audience would be teachers of all ages and abilities who are wanting to improve their lessons with technology. Using multimedia can be a powerful tool in and out of the classroom. Teachers can create lessons to share during distance learning. They can create presentations or even have a little fun to brighten students days. Students can create meaningful projects that reflect there learning in class. In the examples I shared, students and teachers used green screens, cameras, teleprompters and the app I-Movie to create some wonderful examples to share. All teachers and students have given permission to share these with the public.
Gantwick in the Halls was an idea that two of my fellow co-workers wanted to try to bring some joy and fun to our school. They asked me to help design a weekly tv show that we could share with the students through our school management system and online through Facebook. Since our school has been using technology for many years, we were able to post these on the internet due to permissions we have students and teachers sign each year. We used Garage-band to create a theme song and then had students create puppets to make our opening complete. We would then layout a plan of what our theme would be for the week and try to incorporate students in the process. After all the video work was complete, I would take everything and use I-Movie to add effects, transitions and green screen work. This episode focused on stress and how to combat it. Creating movies with teachers and students is a great way to relax and have some fun in a sometime stressful environment. It can also be a fantastic way to share or present things to a conference, school board or parent association.
Our school has 1-1 iPads for every student grade K-12 and have been using apple products such as laptops and Apple TV for over 10 years. I picked I-movie as the program to create many of my multimedia projects, due to the availability and the ease in which you can use it. The trailer feature provides a quick and easy storyboard for students to create projects for any subject or purpose. The movie creator is simple to use and has so many features such as green screen, backdrops, music, audio and visual editing tools, etc. It literally is like a drag and drop situation. Students are able to pick it up quickly and create powerful pieces for their classes.

The storyboard process is always helpful in planning out your multimedia project. It gives a framework to plan what will be in your video, who do you need to include, what props, sound, and what equipment you will need to complete it. In creating this storyboard, I used Pages to add symbols to help us remember who and what will be involved in each step. I find with students especially if you allow them to add clipart instead of drawing it relieves the stress that can sometime come with having to draw out scenes. I then used this storyboard to keep us on track of what scenes we needed to tape or set times to get the taping complete.
When I started to put the videos in I-movie, I then use the storyboard to help me piece together the videos. This is especially helpful with much longer videos with lots of interacting pieces. I then take this storyboard and mark all over it with transitions I want to add, backgrounds, text features, and visual and audio editing. It helps me keep track of what I have done on big projects that might take more than one day to put together. It also provides me with a sample to show students after I complete the work.
