Multimedia Ideas for Teachers and StudentsUsing multimedia can be a powerful tool in and out of the classroom. Teachers can create lessons to share during distance learning. They can create presentations or even have a little fun to brighten students days. Students can create meaningful projects that reflect their learning in class. In the following examples, students and teachers used green screens, cameras, teleprompters and the app I-Movie to create some wonderful examples to share. All teachers and students have given permission to share these with the public.

Trailers in I-Movie can be a quick and easy way to incorporate technology in the classroom. Students can make a trailer about a book, create commercials, or tell a story. In the Pumpkin Contest, I was asked by a teacher to help promote a pumpkin painting contest the 7th grade was doing. After they read a book, they had to paint the story plot elements on their pumpkins. They then would have them on display and visitors would vote on them. We share this trailer with families on Facebook and our school website to invite them to come to the showing. I use this example a lot with my students when I asked them to create their own trailers.
This year due to Covid, Drama Club had to create a movie instead of a real play. We used green screens, costumes, music and sound effects to bring the story to life. To help promote our movie premiere, I created a trailer. Dr. Evil and Pigeon with Lasers was a huge success and our trailer brought in the audience. Programs like I-Movie can help bring creativity and problem solving in even the worst situations.

Gantwick in the Halls was an idea that two of my fellow co-workers wanted to try to bring some joy and fun to our school. They asked me to help design a weekly tv show that we could share with the students through our school management system and online through Facebook. Since our school has been using technology for many years, we were able to post these on the internet due to permissions we have students and teachers sign each year. We used Garage-band to create a theme song and then had students create puppets to make our opening complete. We would then layout a plan of what our theme would be for the week and try to incorporate students in the process. After all the video work was complete, I would take everything and use I-Movie to add effects, transitions and green screen work. This episode focuses on stress and how to combat it. Creating movies with teachers and students is a great way to relax and have some fun in a sometime stressful environment. It can also be a fantastic way to share or present things to a conference, school board or parent association.

Student Examples
The real fun comes when you teach students to use these products for assignments. I had the privilege with working with these students and helping them with the technology points for their projects. These students have given permission to share these amazing pieces of work.

Using Multimedia Presentations to Share Information with Fellow Colleagues
As an educator it is important to share information that will assist your fellow teachers in becoming better instructors. Sometimes you are asked to present to a small group of teachers or even at a large conference. Being able to create a presentation with links, videos, pictures, graphics, etc, is vital to making the experience engaging. Click the button on the left to view a presentation I designed of how you can use some of Apple's apps and products to create highly engaging lessons and activities for your students.
